Colette Hebert and Richard Council, Miami, FL
Colette and Richard share a love of dancing
and teaching tango. Their ability to communicate through dance and music gives a sense of something special and magical. They have performed with many great entertainers and numerous dance companies. In 2003 they won the IDO United States Argentine Tango Championships and in 2005 competed in the World Championships held in Buenos Aires where they were finalists in Tango Salon and semi-finalists in Performance Tango. As a teacher Colette has a comprehensive understanding of many learning styles. She uses a thorough teaching method based on the mechanics of tango movement, connection, musicality, and improvisation. Richard is well versed in the techniques and styles of a wide variety of partnership dances and a veteran of many performances. Colette and Richard taught at the 2008 ValenTango in Portland, OR and frequently appear as guest instructors at tango festivals around the country. Heather Haugland and Antonio Diaz, Lima, Peru
Heather and Antonio taught salsa in Juneau and around Southeast Alaska since 2002, prior to moving to Lima, Peru in January 2008. Antonio taught and performed in Seattle for several years, winning the city-wide Seattle Salsa Contest in 2000. Antonio is originally from Lima where his family runs a dance studio. Heather received her Latin dance training in Cuba, where she spent four months studying salsa and other Latin rhythms. Together, they teach weekly classes at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. In addition to their regular Juneau teaching schedule, they have taught workshops in Sitka, Skagway, Ketchikan, and Haines. They also perform at numerous special events, along with their dance group Rumbalaska.
Stephanie Griffin, Anchorage, AK
Stephanie is originally from Southeast Georgia, and has been studying, teaching, and
choreographing in Alaska since 2001. As co-director of Ritmovida Dance Partnership, she has been teaching, choreographing and performing social Latin dance around the state since 2002. Stephanie is also an alumn of the UAA Dance Ensemble, contributing to over ten of the departments productions. She has hadd the opportunity to receive training with outside artists such as Marianela Boan (DanzAbierta, Havana Cuba), Molly Shanahan (Mad Shak Dance Company, Chicago), Jump Rhythm Jazz Project (Chicagok), and Augusto Soledade (BrazzDance, Miami). Her most memorable experience is debuting her choreographic work, "Together in Time", at the American College Dance Festival in March 2008 at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City.
Rachel Lidskog, Portland, Oregon
Rachel Lidskog is a professional ballroom dancer and teacher based in Portland, Oregon. She was in Juneau last November to teach workshops and participate in Juneau's "Dancing with the Stars" fundraiser for the
Arts and Humanities Council's Artist Grant Fund. Rachel is an enthusiastic and charismatic instructor who has been teaching since 1989. She currently teaches at the Portland State University, at her studio ?Dance with Joy', in public schools, and at workshops and special events. Rachel was awarded a bronze medal at the 1992 Fred Astaire National Ballroom Competition and most recently she and her professional partner, Greg Krolicki, earned a bronze medal in the 2005 World Championships for Country Western and Swing. Felix Bambury Webbe, Guantanamo, Cuba and Fairbanks, AK
Felix Bambury Webbe, a
native of Guantanamo, Cuba, brings a lifetime of dance experience and a contagious enthusiasm and positive spirit to his high energy classes. Felix has been performing with various dance groups in Cuba since his youth as a student in Santiago de Cuba. Felix has performed as a professional dancer since 1994 with several celebrated dance companies including, "Espectaculo Ibu Ana", "Raices Profunda, and Banrarra. As a member of Banrarra he assisted with several international dance courses organized by Plaza Cuba. Most recently Felix has held the position of profesor of folkloric dance with the contemporary dance company, Narcisco Medina, in Havana,Cuba.
